Introduction

The ADIP scheme was introduced in the year 1981 for the Persons with Disabilities and implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. It came into sharp focus, particularly after the enactment of Persons With Disabilities Act (Equal opportunity and protection of rights and full participation act) 1995.

Objectives

The main objective of the scheme is to help the disabled persons and bring suitable, durable, scientifically manufactured, modern, light weight aids and appliances within their reach, which are essential for social, economical and vocational rehabilitation of the disabled persons. The aids and appliance supplied under the scheme must be ISI marked.

Quantum of assistance to PwDs

Aids and appliances which don’t cost more than Rs.6000/- are covered under the scheme. For visually, mentally, speech and hearing or multiple disabled, the limit would be Rs.8000/-. This limit is applied to individual item of aids and appliances and where more than one aids is required, the ceiling will apply separately. The amount of assistance will be as follows:

Rehabilitation Camps:
To provide the rehabilitation services to the persons with disabilities in rural, tribal, remote and interior areas, the Institute has been conducting rehabilitation camps in collaboration with district authorities and NGOs to provide aids and appliances in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and North-Eastern states.
Assessment cum Distribution Camp:
Assessment camps are conducted to evaluate the needs of persons with disabilities before conducting the final fitment/ distribution camps.
