Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) is an Autonomous Body under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Situated at Olatpur, Cuttack Odisha approximately 30 kilometres from both Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, SVNIRTAR is one of the premier National Institutes dedicated in providing complete Rehabilitation Services, Education, Training, Research and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
SVNIRTAR is committed in providing comprehensive medical rehabilitation services for persons with all kind of disabilities through an integrated multidisciplinary approach. Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is equipped with a 200-Bedded Hospital, Operation Theatre, Diagnostic Facilities, Visual Impaired Unit, Blood Disorder Unit. Departments of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Speech and Hearing Services, Clinical Psychology, Vocational and Social Work, CDEIC are also equipped with state of the art infrastructure. SVNIRTAR serves as a centre of excellence in disability rehabilitation.
Affiliated with Utkal University and Odisha University of Health Sciences, Bhubaneswar SVNIRTAR is a leading Institution in providing rehabilitation education and human resource development. The Institute offers various undergraduate programmes in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics and Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology along with postgraduate programmes in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Prosthetics and Orthotics. SVNIRTAR is accredited by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi for imparting DNB in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and also conducts a Fellowship in Rehabilitation Surgery.
SVNIRTAR is also engaged in providing various Skill Training Programmes through its Vocational Training Centre in the field of Mobile Phone Repair Technician, Other Home Appliance Repair Technician, Assistant Beauty Therapist, LED Light Repair Technician, Hospitality Associate and Soft Skill training.
In addition to degree programmes SVNIRTAR conducts several Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) approved courses including Diploma in Indian Sign Language Interpretation (DISLI), Certificate in Bench Skills (CBS), Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) and Certificate Course in Care Giving for Parents (CCCGP). The Institute in continuously engaged in organizing Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Programmes, Short Orientation Courses, Workshops and awareness programmes for Rehabilitation Professionals, Government Officials, Non-Government Organizations and Persons with Disabilities and their families.
The Institute extends its Rehabilitation Services beyond its campus through Sub-Centres located at Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal and Nuapada. The Institute is also going to expand its presence at Malkangiri, Odisha. It also provides technical and rehabilitation services through various Composite Regional Centres for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (CRCSREs) situated at Guwahati (Assam), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Balangir (Odisha), Imphal (Manipur) and Shillong (Meghalaya) functioning under the administrative control of SVNIRTAR. The Institute is also on the verge of opening a centre at Nagaland.
SVNIRTAR has also played a significant role in establishing and supporting District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs) across several states. Through extensive outreach activities, SVNIRTAR has conducted several Rehabilitation Camps in various rural, remote and underserved regions all across the country, providing rehabilitation services, surgical interventions, assistive devices as well as follow-up care at the doorstep of Persons with Disabilities.
The Institute maintains a well-equipped Library, Information and Documentation Centre to support learning, research and dissemination of knowledge in the field of disability and rehabilitation. It also provides consultancy and technical support to government and non-government organizations for planning, establishing and strengthening rehabilitation services.
