    ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

    Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) is an Autonomous Body under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Situated at Olatpur, Cuttack Odisha approximately 30 kilometres from both Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, SVNIRTAR is one of the premier National Institutes dedicated in providing complete Rehabilitation Services, Education, Training, Research and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. This Institute was originally established as National Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotics Training (NIPOT) as a subsidiary unit of ALIMCO, Kanpur in 1975. Presently it is an autonomous body and a Registered Society under the financial and administrative control of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DIVYANGJAN), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.

    The Institute has a 200-bedded Hospital along with well equipped Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics & Orthotics and Speech & Hearing Departments for Rehabilitation of Persons with Locomotor Disabilities.

    GOVERNING BODY OF S.V.NIRTAR

    The Governing body of SVNIRTAR is constituted by two councils viz. (1) General Council (GC) whose president is the Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and (2) Executive Council (EC) whose Chairperson is the Joint Secretary (Disability Division), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. Director of the Institute is administrative Head of the Institute and is Member Secretary for both the governing councils.

    THE MAIN AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF SVNIRTAR

    1. Aims and Objectives
      1. Human Resource Development

      To undertake, promote, sponsor, coordinate, and conduct education, training, and capacity-building programmes for rehabilitation professionals and personnel including medical practitioners, rehabilitation engineers, prosthetists and orthotists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, rehabilitation psychologists, special educators, multipurpose rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and other allied professionals engaged in the rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

      1. Research and Innovation

      To conduct, sponsor, coordinate, support, and disseminate research in rehabilitation sciences, rehabilitation engineering, assistive technology, disability studies, biomechanics, clinical rehabilitation, inclusive development, and related fields, leading to improved rehabilitation outcomes and enhanced quality of life for persons with disabilities.

      1. Assistive Devices and Technology

      To design, develop, evaluate, manufacture, promote, distribute, and facilitate access to assistive devices, aids, appliances, orthoses, prostheses, mobility aids, communication devices, and other rehabilitation technologies for persons with disabilities.

      1. Rehabilitation Services

      To provide comprehensive rehabilitation services including medical, therapeutic, special education, vocational, psychological, social, and community-based rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities.

      1. Service Delivery Models

      To develop, pilot, evaluate, document, and replicate innovative models of rehabilitation service delivery, community-based rehabilitation, outreach programmes, tele-rehabilitation, and inclusive service systems.

      1. Vocational Training and Livelihood

      To undertake, promote, and facilitate vocational training, skill development, career guidance, employment support, entrepreneurship development, livelihood promotion, placement services, and economic rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

      1. Information, Documentation, and Dissemination

      To collect, generate, publish, promote, and disseminate information, knowledge, best practices, research findings, and educational materials relating to disability, rehabilitation, and assistive technology in India and abroad.

      1. Consultancy and Technical Support

      To provide consultancy, technical assistance, capacity building, and advisory services to Governments, public sector organizations, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, industries, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders in matters relating to disability and rehabilitation.

      1. Collaboration and Networking

      To establish and maintain collaboration with national and international organizations, universities, research institutions, professional bodies, industry partners, and other agencies for advancing rehabilitation education, research, innovation, and service delivery.

      1. Promotion of Accessibility and Inclusion

      To promote accessibility, universal design, inclusive education, inclusive employment, independent living, and the full participation of persons with disabilities in all spheres of life.

      1. Policy Support and Advocacy

      To support policy formulation, programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and advocacy initiatives aimed at safeguarding the rights and enhancing the welfare of persons with disabilities.

      1. Any Other Activities

      To undertake any other activities incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives and to promote the rehabilitation, empowerment, inclusion, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

    TRAINING PROGRAMMES

    Human resource development has always been a priority for the Institute since its inception. To meet the demand for various Rehabilitation professionals in the country, the Institute conducts various long-term courses.

    LONG TERM COURSES

    UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

    The regular long-term courses conducted by the Institute are as follows:

    3 Bachelor in Prosthetic and Orthotic 4 years +6 Months Internship 46 10+2 with PCB or PCM with 50% aggregate marks for all category candidates.
    3 Bachelor in Audiology & Speech Language Pathology 4 years including 1 Year Internship 20 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and any one of the subject Biology / Mathematics / Computer Science / Statistics / Electronics / Psychology with 50% aggregate marks.

    Separate National level Entrance Tests (CET & PGET) are being conducted in all the major cities of the country for the admission into above courses except DNB (PMR) which is conducted by Diplomate of National Board, New Delhi. 

    OUT SIDE INTERNEES

    SVNIRTAR offers a six-month internship programme for outside students who have completed regular BPT/ BOT course from a recognized university.

    SHORT TERM COURSES

    Short duration Programme of one day to one week period have been designed to update the knowledge of faculty members and Rehabilitation Professionals working in various Government and Non-Governmental organizations. It is also to orient professionals and various level of government functionaries on Community Based Rehabilitation services.

    The programmes have also been prepared to create general awareness amongst the Community Leaders and family members of the persons with disabilities thus they can understand the problems faced by the Persons with Disability in the society and can find the solutions with in the community to ease their productive and self sufficient lives.

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    The eligibility requirement for admission to short term courses depends upon the nature and objectives of the course. Each participants of all professional SOC/CME/Workshop will have to pay 300/- (three hundred only) as Registration fee.

    While choosing the courses, the prospective participants may go through the eligibility requirements prescribed for each course. The venue, duration and schedule of programme mentioned are changeable at the discretion of the Director.

      • NOMINATION/SPONSORING

    The candidates working either in Govt. or Non-Governmental organization who propose to attend short-term courses offered by the Institute should invariably be sponsored by their employers.

      • APPLICATION   FORMS

    Application forms along with bio-data should be forwarded to the Director/ Course Co-ordinator with sponsoring certificate at least eight weeks before the due date of each programme. A copy of the Registration form has been enclosed with this training calendar for the benefit of the participants, which can be photocopied for multiple use.

      • SELECTION

    For most of the short-term courses, the Institute receives large number of applications, and at times it is not possible to accommodate every applicant. Therefore, priority is given to those candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria and who have not attended the same course in the past. Only the candidates who receive confirmation from the Institute shall be allowed to attend the programme. Registration fee Rs.300/- (Three hundred) only will have to pay at the time of registration for professional SOC/CME/Workshop.

      • TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE

    TA/DA will be paid to the participants for attending SOC/CME/Workshop /Seminars, in the sleeper class/bus in the shortest route subject to submission of original ticket.

      • ACCOMMODATION

    Limited number of Dormitory type of accommodation is available for male candidates on first-cum-first basis. No accommodation is available for female candidates in the Institute campus. However, applicants can make their own arrangements as per their convenience.

      • EVALUATION

    The candidates are required to fill up an evaluation proforma received on completion of the course and submit it to the course Co-ordinator.

      • LEAVE

    No leave is permitted during the period of the short-term course.

      • AWARD OF CERTIFICATE

    The candidates on completion of the course are given a certificate of attendance.
